“Is This Okay?” — Age Regression, Shame, and Self-Kindness

By The Nursery · July 3, 2026

A reassuring, harm-reduction-minded piece for anyone quietly wondering whether it's alright to feel drawn to little space.

A lot of people arrive at age regression the same way: quietly, at 2am, half-afraid to type the words into a search bar. If that's you — welcome, and please be gentle with yourself.

Here is the honest, kind truth: wanting comfort is not shameful. Wanting to feel small and safe and looked-after is one of the most human things there is. Age regression, practiced by consenting adults for their own wellbeing, is healthy. It is a form of rest.

Shame tends to whisper that you're "too old for this" or that something must be wrong with you. But the desire to soothe yourself — with soft things, gentle routines, a stuffed animal, a colouring page — isn't a defect. For many people it's a skill: a reliable way to down-regulate stress and return to themselves.

A few gentle guidelines that keep it healthy:

  • Keep it consensual. Anything shared with another person should be wanted by everyone involved.
  • Keep it separate from anything unsafe. Little space is for comfort; it shouldn't be used to avoid getting real help when you truly need it.
  • Be patient with yourself. Unlearning shame takes time, and that's okay.

You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to justify comfort. Whatever brought you here, you deserve to feel safe.
