๐ธ The Change
- Lay baby down gently on the changing mat

- Use the clean front of the diaper to wipe forward before removing
- Fold soiled diaper closed and set aside
- Lift bottom gently by ankles
- Wipe front to back โ never back to front
- Wipe all folds and creases thoroughly
- Check for any redness or rash
- Pat dry (don't rub โ skin is sensitive)
- Apply barrier cream if there is any redness or as routine prevention
- Apply powder if used โ dust lightly, not heavily
- Slide clean diaper underneath
- Position properly โ rise at the back
- Secure tabs firmly but not too tight โ two fingers should fit at waist
- Check leg gathers are tucked in properly
โ After the Change
- Dispose of soiled diaper in pail or bag
- Clean changing mat / wipe down surface
- Wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds
- Re-dress baby or adjust clothing
- Give a little reassurance โ a pat, a smile, a kind word
- Note wet/mess status if tracking
๐ Caregiver Notes
- Always reassure your little during changes โ tone of voice matters
- For very sensitive skin, use fragrance-free wipes only
- If rash appears more than occasionally, try a different brand of diaper
- At night, use an extra thick diaper or booster pad to avoid leaks
- Consider a routine post-change ritual (pacifier, cuddle, bottle) to signal the transition
