High-Control Needs Backup Plans
24/7 and high-control dynamics can feel secure because expectations are clear. They also create risk if something unexpected happens. Emergencies are not the time to figure out basic needs.
Pause Protocol
Create a phrase that pauses dynamic rules immediately.
Examples:
- "Real life pause."
- "Medical pause."
- "Adult mode now."
Everyone should know what rules stop, what care continues, and how to restart later.
Caregiver Absence
Plan for times when a caregiver is unavailable.
Include:
- Self-care checklist
- Medication reminders
- Food and water plan
- Diaper or hygiene schedule
- Emergency contact rules
- Which punishments or restrictions are automatically paused
No one should lose access to basic needs because a caregiver is busy or unreachable.
Medical Events
Medical needs override roleplay. If there is severe pain, fainting, chest pain, breathing trouble, blood, fever, sudden confusion, or serious injury, stop the scene and seek appropriate help.
Have medications, allergies, insurance information, and emergency contacts accessible.
Power, Weather and Travel
Keep supplies for disruptions:
- Flashlight
- Charged power bank
- Water
- Shelf-stable food
- Extra diapers
- Trash bags
- Medications
- Basic first aid
For travel, know where supplies can be purchased nearby.
Restarting After an Emergency
After the situation passes, debrief:
- What worked?
- What failed?
- Were any rules unsafe?
- Did anyone feel abandoned?
- What needs to change?
*The more control a dynamic uses, the more seriously it needs emergency planning.*
